OPT unemployment days
An estimate of the unemployment days you have used, from your EAD dates and your jobs. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
Enter both dates from your EAD card.
How many unemployment days do you get on OPT?
90 days on post-completion OPT. If you receive the STEM OPT extension, you get 60 more, for 150 in total across both periods. The days add up; they do not reset when you find a job and then lose it.
When does the count start, and what stops it?
The count starts on the start date on your EAD card and every calendar day counts, weekends included. It stops only on days you have a job that is at least 20 hours a week and directly related to your degree. A job that fails either test does not stop it.
Is this the official number?
No. The official count is SEVP's, worked out from the employment you report in the SEVP Portal, and your DSO decides whether a job counts. Use this estimate to plan, and check the official number before relying on it. Our guide, the OPT unemployment limit, explained, covers the rules in full.
